FLOW - A Work in Progress
FLOW is a photographic exploration of people at work, play and protest.
When I originally envisioned doing a photography book themed around the idea of Flow I was inspired by the psychological theories of Mihaly Csikszentmihaly which describe the blissful state attained during periods of deep focus. I’ve always been interested in capturing candid portraits of people while intensely engaged in activities, whether at work, play, celebrating, protesting… I am also fascinated by how people’s personas, and the vulnerabilities they expose to the camera, are shaped by their physical surroundings and the contexts in which we encounter them.
I find my flow-state taking pictures, so a shared moment between subject and photographer when both are independently caught up in the act of doing something they are passionate about in a place that is meaningful to them.
